Motivation Mobility

FABIO and the European Institute for Sustainable Transport (EURIST) launched the Motivation Mobility (MoMo) exchange to link students from Uganda’s St Noa Mawaggali SSS in Jinja with peers at Sachsenwaldschule and Wentorf Gymnasium near Hamburg.

In 2022, ten Ugandan teenagers traveled to Germany, staying with host families, attending school, and touring bike‑friendly Münster, the Miniaturwunderland museum, and Hamburg’s HafenCity. Together they discussed sustainability and built models of greener cities. The following year, ten German students visited Jinja, exploring the KCCA offices, the NMT corridor, the railway museum, and participating in workshops on plastic up‑cycling and green‑city design. 

The knowledge exchange fostered a shift in mindset whereby students returned to their school and designed activities to mitigate climate change: planting fruit trees and grass in school, creating recycling bins and adopted the use of a bicycle.
